I am a big fan of play based-learning, Montessori, and Reggio actvities for kids.  There is so much to be said for open-play.  So, without further ado, here are five of my favorite play-based learning posts. (I have no affliation to any of the sites, nor did I receive any sort of compensation for this post from anyone mentioned here).

1. DIY Light Box Tutorial

I love The Imagination Tree!  So many ideas to make at home for kids to play with for hours.  This is a simple tutorial to make a light box for sensory play at home.  Most light tables are fairly expensive ($400 to $500).  This is a much less pricey route with good instructions.

2. Keep It Pointless

Step by step guide for parents to open play and being a good playmate.  Good suggestions for toddlers and younger children.  Moving Smart has lots of other posts worth sifting through with tons of great ideas.

2. Rock Monster Pebble Magnet Tutorial

I just think these little guys are adorable!  One pinner on Pinterest suggested leaving them in places around town for other kiddos to find.  How fun!  Coastal Inspired Creations is a Etsy shop selling incredible handmade creations.

4. Growing a Jeweled Rose - Themed Sensory Baths

If you have not had a chance to visitGrowing a Jeweled Rose, you must do so, right now!  I give you permission to hop over to her blog.  Don't worry I'll wait for you here. :)

Her themed sensory baths are my favorite of all her posts.  She plans a whole sensory experience with sights, smells, things to touch and play with, all for play-based learning.

5. Under Construction - Hard Hat Area

I think this will be a very popular play therapy activity, and we'll definitely be using it at home, too!  The pebbles provide a good sensory experience for children who need it.  This activity is also a lot easier to clean up than a box with sand!  (Just keep the sand outside!)

Pink and Green Mama is aninspired, playful mom with tons of great ideas on play-based learning.
